I was told by the parliamentarians who accompanied Prime Minister Gilani that there is now a political consensus in Pakistan against terrorism. That should strengthen the hands of its leaders in taking the hard decisions that will be needed to destroy terrorism and its sponsors in their country.

GRATUITOUS REFERENCE TO BALOCHISTAN ... This could be because some in the Indian camp have convinced themselves that Pakistan is now seriously going to join the fight against terrorism, more so since Pakistan is itself suffering the effects of the Jihad factory that has been working in that country for over three decades now.

1Can ‘benefit’ the either side. How Pakistan can be benefited, you’ve already written in your assessment.
But everyone seems to forget he other side. Pakistan ‘ve played a big gamble by including Baloch crisis in Jt Statement. Pak’s allegation over involvement of India & RAW in terrorism in Pakistan is nothing new. Many times earlier they’ve alleged that Indians are being recruited to carry out terror strikes in Pakistan. Even few months ago, it was reported that two ‘India Nationals’ had been arrested for involvement in bomb blasts.
To establish the involvement of India in Baluchistan, Pakistan must provide proofs. & if such ‘proofs’ are as lame as earlier allegations of Indian involvement in terrorist activity, that may create severe backlash on Pakistan, becoz don’t forget the whole world is now watching Pakistan. Moreover, if Pakistan creates much noise over Baloch issue, Baloch leaders in exile can try to use it to get International support for their struggle & unveil how Pakistan is oppressing Balochis.

2I think thats a fair assesment. This is a foreign policy blunder n this will result in bringing shame to india. I dont understand how congress party lost common sense while making this decision. They could have been a little more sensitive to india’s problems. Our days are numbered? I dont think so because indian army is still guarding us with their lives even if they have been weakened by congress’s blunders in modernizing army or anything related to army. Sometimes i wish indian army took over the parliament but i also know that it would be a military rule which is not right. Given the options i think bjp still is the best of the rest.

3If another major terrorist attack occurs in India by Pakistani militants then it would certainly lead to a war.
If congress doesnot go for war this time then it will lose credibility and opposition will take this as an opportunity to get back to power.
And no one can stop BJP from going to war (I’m not a BJP fan).
